Netl, a wink to the world
The demand for beautiful, high-quality clothing is increasing. The world’s population is expected to increase from 7 to 9 billion people by 2050. Fortunately, the lives of men, women and children on all continents are improving.
Approximately 50% of all clothing is made of cotton. This requires a lot of water for its production. The irrigation of cotton fields leads to the salinization of the soil, making this land unsuitable for agriculture. In many cases, excessive amounts of chemicals are also sprayed on the crop.
Stinging nettles grow in a temperate climate with adequate rainfall. Like ours, whether we like it or not. Hardly any pesticides are needed for cultivation, which is fantastic. After planting the crop is harvested in August, after which the plant grows back and the same field can be harvested 7 years in a row. So stinging nettles really do grow like weeds.
From weed to crop!
- Research shows that stinging nettle fibres are as strong and 30 to 50% lighter than cotton.
- The stinging nettle is processed in Europe in a human-friendly and environmentally-friendly manufacturing process.
- The stinging nettle fibre is mixed with cotton, wool, linen or other textile materials.
